Yesterday was a pretty eventful day in the office. We were all minding our business when all of a sudden, a terrible sound erupted from down the hall from my cube. It sounded like a mixture of someone's desk collapsing and a glass vase getting dropped. I turned and looked down the hall and it turns out, one of the doors from our double doors completely shattered.
The story goes like this: apparently at approximately 1:30 p.m. the glass in the door cracked. I should explain that there are heavy magnet pieces at the top that keep the door locked until your card is held up to the card reader. The door also had a metal handle, but pretty much everything except the hinges, handle, and magnet were completely glass.
A group had gathered by the door, wondering what would happen. Then, Sue got off the elevator and was coming toward the door to come back to work after lunch. Despite protests from several members of the group on the inside of the office, Sue put her card up to the card reader and was about to open the door when it completely shattered due to the magnet being released. Glass was EVERYWHERE. Onlookers reported they never saw someone move so quickly. Sue escaped without a scratch.
So we now have a wood "door" until ours is replaced next Friday. Crazy, eh?
